MatchBox Collectibles! MatchBox Cars were first introduced in England in 1953 by Lesney Products. The MatchBox name originated because the original die-cast models were packaged in small boxes that resembled boxes of matches. Hence, the name MatchBox was widely used by the mass public as an alternate name for all die-cast toy cars that measured 2-3 inches in length, regardless of the manufacture.
It was not until the 1970s when MatchBox switched to the conventional "blister packs" that are used for many other die-cast cars today, including Hot Wheels. MatchBox cars are crafted with die-cast metal and plastic parts, and are perfect for party favors, and stocking stuffers! Have fun shopping for MatchBox at AMS Collectibles! |
